Description: We investigate the capability of a Peltier thermo-electric cooler to be used for thermal management of automotive batteries via infrared thermal imaging. The cooler must be able to maintain a surface temperature distribution which lies within a range of 5°C from maximum to minimum temperature. The investigation was done with no external thermal load, using an infrared thermal imaging camera, due to which the surface needed to be treated with a high emissivity paint. Post investigation, it was found that for the initial period of 90 seconds after power supply, the temperature range between maximum and minimum surface temperature was found to be 5.6°C. After 7 minutes and 30 seconds the temperature over the surface had a range of 0.9°C. Thus we can say that in the initial 90 seconds after power supply, the surface conditions are unacceptable, but after 90 seconds, the range of surface temperature is acceptable. The initial condition can be corrected by using a higher Peltier cooler to cooling surface ratio in the construction of the cooler
