Description: Several agricultural biomass can be used as natural fibres for cement composites materials. However, not all of this biomass has adequate aptitude for this application. In order to estimate, in a preliminary manner, the potential use of a particular biomass, an aptitude index (AI) was developed and validated in this study. Three stages were performed: (a) review and selection of techniques to analyse agricultural biomass properties, focused on the potential use of lignocellulosic fibres for fiber-cement composites (FCCs), (b) aptitude index development, and (c) preliminary validation by analysing seven different biomasses. The results of this research can be exploited as a guideline for estimate the potential use of particular agricultural biomass for FCCs.
