Description: In the production of good silage, lactic and acetic acids are produced by the lactobacilli present in the ensiled plant material. This fermentation process stops after a few days when a certain level of acidity has been reached. The amount of acid produced and the final pH depends on the type of crop material and, to a large extent, on its moisture content (Lopez et al. 1970 McDonald et al. 1968). For instance, Lopez et al.
