Description: Terrain tracking is the key factor to improve the picking efficiency of the wild ?blueberry harvesting machines. This paper introduces the design of an automatic ?head-height control system for wild blueberry harvesters. The developed system ?consisted of a short-range RADAR system customized to cover the width of the ?harvester head, a real-time computing unit, custom-built software, displacement ?sensor, and an Inertial measurement unit.? RADAR sensing system provides non-contact sensing of ground surface and ?detection of rock through the vegetation canopy. The proposed header height ?controller able to follow the shape of the terrain to maintain a relatively constant ?altitude above ground level. Lab experiments used to develop, test, and ?consequently improve the data acquisition and processing procedures. The test ?results showed the potential of applying such a system on commercial harvesters.?
