Description: NEVONEX is an IoT Framework for agricultural machinery data. For a simple explanation, the system is often called the ?Android for Tractors?. As a core technology for future agricultural value chains, it helps improve interoperability, compatibility, and connectivity of agricultural machines like tractor-implement combinations or harvesting machinery.
Digital Transformation requires that not only Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), but also 3rd-party content providers are able to provide digital services for farming machinery.
Solutions in the NEVONEX context come to farmers as "FEATUREs" (comparable to an ?App?) - software modules, that are executed directly on the machine and optimize agricultural processes (e.g. sowing, fertilizing, spraying, machine maintenance etc.). On the hardware side, a ?NEVONEX box? is installed on a machine. It provides connectivity, read and write access to the CAN bus systems of the machines (e.g. ISOBUS, j1939) and further hardware components (additional actuators and sensors). This is where NEVONEX differs from other systems, that usually only offer reading access to the vital functions of the machines.
In it?s core, NEVONEX is a collection of interfaces. The software and hardware infrastructure surrounding those, makes it easy for developers to create new digital services, that can be deployed quickly to farmer?s machines. Therefore, NEVONEX speeds up the development process from a first agronomic idea for a digital service, up to deployment of said service in the field.
This contribution explains, what NEVONEX is, how it works and gives some insights from the first field trials in 2020. It further examines the process of development of a digital service and shows how the NEVONEX partner network fosters cooperation and helps companies develop digital services for agricultural machines and the corresponding business models in an efficient and streamlined process.
