Description: Heat pump (HP) assisted drying is highly efficient and easily controllable system to obtain accurate drying conditions for agricultural products. The mathematical models of a heat pump dryer consist of three sub-models; drying models, heat pump models, and performance models. The objective of the research was to develop algorithms for calculating design parameters for batch-type, closed-loop heat pump dryer. Python programming language was used to develop algorithms for heat and mass balance of refrigerant and air cycle of the HP dryer under constant drying rate conditions. Inlet drying air conditions were inputs to the algorithm and volumetric air flow rate, refrigerant flow rate, cooling load, compressor power requirement, specific moisture extraction rate, and coefficient of performance were calculated. HP dryer design parameters can effectively use for develop batch type heat pump dryers.
