Description: Adult red flour beetles (Tribolium castaneum) infested bulk canola seeds (Brassica napus L.) (9 % moisture content) were treated using a 50-ohm radio frequency (RF) heating system with an inline tubular type applicator with parallel electrodes. Thermal mortalities of the insect pests were determined by treating the adult red flour beetles infested canola seeds between 297 K and 338 K at RF heating power of 3 kW, 5 kW, and 7 kW. Based on the temperature history data of 9 % moisture content canola seeds at 3 kW, 5 kW, and 7 kW, regression models (temperature vs time) of the temperature history were developed for input data in the thermal death kinetic model used in this study. The kinetic parameters of the thermal death of the adult red flour beetles including frequency factor, activation energy and order of reaction were estimated using inverse simulation. The ordinary differential equation-based kinetic model with the Arrhenius temperature-dependent reaction rate constant was solved using the 4th order Runge-Kutta method in MATLAB. The kinetics followed a 1st order reaction with the activation energy of 97.50 kJ/mol. Satisfactory agreements were observed between the mortalities predicted using the kinetic model and the experiments. Product quality parameters including moisture content, germination, colour, and oil oxidation of canola seeds were analyzed before and after RF treatment, no significant changes were observed.
