Description: Canada enjoys an abundance of water resources. The situation seems different with future climate change threats; nonetheless, a way forward is the best governance and management of water resources, which need a policy best suited for the country’s ecosystems. Major components have been reviewed to discuss major components of water dimensions, security, and governance, with case studies to inventory the available water resources in the wake of sustainability and climate change. Water security can be assured through designing as well as implementing water governance and national water policy. The Federal Water Policy of Canada is over a quarter-century old and, in turn, needs revisions. The updated policy needs to address the social, economic, political, and environmental dimensions of water. Urgent water issues include conserving as well as protecting Canadian water resources that have massive pressure for municipal uses, industrial needs, agribusinesses, and quality. The current opportunity-driven challenges are sourced from future accelerated snow and ice melt, sea-level rise, changing precipitation patterns, seasonal shifts, and impacts on hydrological (surface and groundwater) regimes on urban and aquatic life. Sustainable use of water resources requires maintaining an inventory that can be made using artificial intelligence as shown by the two case studies. A comprehensive consideration of water security and climate change can lead to devising the new water policy for Canada.
