Description: Soil water characteristics (SWCC) models have various applications in crop water requirements, estimation of crop yield, and assessment and management of land degradation. There are many developed models and no research to guide the selection of these models when using limited measured data. Comparison of fitness between different models to determine the best SWCC model for Prince Edward Island (PEI) soils is required for the sustainable crop production. In this study, soil samples from different location in PEI are collected and analyzed to develop the observed SWCC using pressure plate apparatus. To calibrate and validate the state-of-the-art SWCC models with observed SWCC, HydroMe-R package is used. This R package uses the non-linear regression model to select the best fitting parameters (saturated soil moisture, residual soil moisture, soil porosity). The R software manipulates this package to improve the accuracy of the parameter estimation process by integrating modelling techniques like the covariate and mixed effects. The two-parameter and three-parameter models fit well with minimum four data points, while the four-parameter models need a minimum of five data points. The six-parameter models need a minimum of six data points. The findings show that the few parameter models can be used when data points are less than six. This serves as a guide in the model?s selection based on limited data.
