Description: Studies have shown that abrupt changes in soil electrical conductivity can be used to indicate if soil is frozen or thawed. Advances in digital recording systems make it possible to automatically record electrical conductivity. Parallel steel rods driven into the soil were used to continuously monitor changes in electrical conductivity during periods of seasonal frost for 2 yr.
