Description: Several materials have been investigated to determine their suitability for use as phase change energy storage media at low temperatures. The most feasible proved to be calcium chloride hexahydrate, and further tests were carried out on this substance to determine the effect of adding extra water on the melting point and latent heat of fusion of the mixture. The results show the melting point is lowered and the heat of fusion increased as the level of excess water increases. Benefits and limitations of *
