Description: In a series of testsmade in a feed mill to reduce energy consumption, a pneumatic conveyor and abucket elevator were compared onboth anenergy and economic basis. The testsshowedthat a bucketelevatoris farmoreefficientthan a pneumatic conveyor on an energy consumption basis andit should be considered in the design ofnew feed mills. In existing mills, the economic analysis suggested that a bucket elevator be considered if there are problems with the pneumatic system already inplace orifthe capacity of the mill needs to be increased.
