Description: Acidic and liquified whole waste fish were composted using 55-litre reactors. The waste fish substrate required pH adjustment to neutral before composting. Wood shavings, hog fuel, and wood chips were selected as alterna tive bulking agents. Three sets of experiments were conducted to determine the most suitable composting conditions. Separated swine manure was also tested as a supplementary substrate to the waste fish. The process was able to meet the United States EPA require ments for pathogen reduction. Hog fuel compost gave the best results in terms of nitrogen conservation. The results further indicated that the composting of waste fish can be done with or without the addition of swine wastes.
