Development of a process for the decentralized pre-treatment of lignocellulosic biomass

Authors: Kurian, J, Gsv Raghavan
Description: In the context of utilizing lignocellulosic biomass for biofuels and biomaterials there should be more involvement and participation by the biomass producers in the processing and trading of the feedstocks produced by them. Most of the biomass pretreatment processes developed so far are energy and capital intensive and they can be used at sophisticated industrial facilities only. A few of the industries and researchers have been working on the decentralized mode of biomass pretreatment to address the issue of biomass availability and its transportation. The overall objective of this research work is to develop a process for the decentralized and onsite pre-treatment of lignocellulosic biomass for the centralized bio-refinery operations. Pretreatment parameters like selection of reagents, its concentration, substrate particle
