Description: Bi-parental population derived from two bread wheat varieties, Cadillac and Carberry, was tested for bending strength at moisture contents of 14 and 22% w.b. A total of 208 experimental lines derived from the population (Carberry and Cadillac) was grown in the field in an augmented design with sixteen blocks, and three checks including Cadillac, Carberry and Glenn lines. The second internode of the stems were cut and conditioned to 14% and 22% moisture content before testing. Test was carried out using Texture Analyzer and stem diameter of the tested specimen was determined using an imaging system. Cadillac wheat stem variety had higher bending strength value than Carberry wheat stem variety in each block at the two moisture contents of 14% and 22% while Glenn had values lying in between. Cadillac had bending strength values ranging from 4.26-7.23 MPa with Carberry, Glenn having 2.62-4.96MPa and 4.02-6.02MPa respectively at 14% while at 22%, the bending strength values reduced with Cadillac having bending strength values ranging from 2.58-5.05 MPa with Carberry, Glenn having 2.46-4.83 MPa and 1.92-4.46 MPa respectively.
